 The 1982 FIFA World Cup was held in Spain and was won by Italy, after defeating West Germany 3–1 in the final. Paolo Rossi, the tournament's top goalscorer, won the Golden Ball as the tournament's best player, but the most hard and significant goal of the final match was Marco Tardelli's, who scored from the edge of the area.
 The 1978 World Cup was held in Argentina, causing controversy as a military coup had taken place in the country two years earlier. The hosts beat the Netherlands 3–1 after extra time. I illustrated the second personal goal of Mario Kempes, who passed over two defenders and beat the goalkeeper after a bounce.
 The final match was contested in West Germany by the Netherlands and the Germans, with the hosts winning 2–1. Match winner was Gerd Müller, who scored the last goal of his career as he retired from the national team, becoming the most prolific striker in the history of the competition at those times.
 In the final of the ninth staging of the World Cup, held in Mexico between Brazil and Italy, Brazil struck first with Pelé heading in a cross by Rivelino. The Brazilian team is often regarded as the greatest World Cup team ever.
 London, 1966. With the score level at 2–2 at the end of 90 minutes, the game contested by England and West Germany went to extra time. In the 98th minute, Geoffrey Hurst found himself on the scoresheet again; his shot hit the crossbar, bounced down onto the goal line, and was awarded as a goal. Because of this controversial decision, I gave prominence to the swiss referee Gottfried Dienst.
 Brazil claimed their second title by defeating Czechoslovakia 3–1 in the final of the 7th World Cup, held in Chile. Amarildo equalized the temporary advantage of the Czechs scoring a tricky goal, thanks also to a mistake of the goalkeeper who was too far from goalposts.
 Not even eighteen, Edison Arantes do Nascimento, better known as Pelé, scored his first of two personal goals in the final against Sweden. Pelé passed over two defenders and hit up one of the greatest goals ever scored in a World Cup tournament. Brazil beat the hosts 5-2 and reached their first World Cup title.
 With this Helmut Rahn's goal West Germany defeated Hungary 3-2 and won the fifth staging of the FIFA World Cup, held in Switzerland. The Germans closed the back after the double scored by the great Ferenc Puskás in the first ten minutes, which gave Hungary a temporary lead of 2-0.
 Today's goal is by Juan Alberto Schiaffino, which temporarily equalized the final match against Brazil. After the cancellations of 1942 and 1946 editions due to World War II, the competition resumed with the 1950 World Cup in Brazil. Uruguay defeated the hosts 2-1 in the deciding match of the four-team final group.
 The third staging of the FIFA World Cup was held in France. Italy retained the championship beating Hungary 4–2 in the final, so there were many goals to choose from. Many pictures and good-quality videos helped me to make this illustration: I decided on Gino Colaussi's second personal goal, which temporarily set the score on 3-1.
