Two illustrations for Johns Hopkins Bloomberg Public Health about the impact of structural racism in elderly people in the U.S. Black men in particular have a lower life expectancy, a higher prevalence of chronic disease and are twice as likely to develop Alzheimer's disease compared to white men. Thanks to AD Patrick Kirchner, as usual.
This week on Internazionale magazine, my cover illustration dedicated to insomnia and how it's becoming more and more widespread. Thanks to AD Maysa Moroni and Giovanni De Mauro, as always!
Book cover illustration for Piedad Bonnett's "Quel che non ha nome" ("That which has no name") published in Italy by Codice Edizioni, an autobiographical novel about the loss of the author's son. Instead of going with some sort of conceptual metaphor, I tried to portray the absence of the son through an everyday object like a student uniform laying on a chair. Thanks to editor Enrico Casadei and graphic designer Silvia Virgillo/Puntuale, as always.
Illustration for Diablo about how chronic loneliness and isolation can contribute to many negative health impacts.
Thanks to AD David Bergeron! Three illustrations for Reader's Digest about how the holidays can be a difficult time for those struggling with depression and suicidal thoughts. Survivors share how they cope, support each other and their reasons for living.
Article by Rebecca Ruiz. Thanks to AD Christina Spalatin! Cover and interior illustrations for Columbia Medicine about a new initiative to instill a healthier coping mechanism for surgeons who experience difficult complications and outcomes during procedures. Far too often surgeons are expected to remain strong and don't - or can't - allow for emotions. Thanks to AD Eson Chan, as always!
Illustration for Monmouth University magazine about an online counseling service launched by Monmouth U. in 2020 with the aim to help people through the pandemic-related challenges.
Thanks to AD Patrick Kirchner, as always. Two pieces for Johns Hopkins Bloomberg Public Health Magazine about the COVID-19's consequences for mental and behavioral health. In terms of cumulative impact, this pandemic looks more like the Great Depression or World War II than other recent infectious disease crises, says author Alexander Gelfand.
Thanks to Robert Ollinger and Patrick Kirchner, as always. An illustration for The Boston Globe Magazine about how Alzheimer's could be isolating and agonizing even for those who care for a loved one with this disease. Sometimes the only thing that helps is knowing that you’re not alone, says author Tom Keane.
Thanks to ad Jacqueline Berthet! An illustration for Monmouth Magazine about how the COVID-19 crisis affects the mental health of different groups, and how healthcare professionals can prepare for this “second tidal wave” from the pandemic.
