In order to avoid students' outbursts, or out of fear of being considered "reactive" themselves, academics sometimes prefer to avoid certain subjects or think twice before organizing conferences on themes deemed too sensitive.

Child Psychology Cover illustration for The Exeter Bulletin, about the importance of promoting civil discussion on hard questions of diversity, inclusion, race, gender, political difference etc. Exeter is a discussion-based school using the Harkness method, involving students seated in a large, oval table to discuss ideas in an open-minded environment.
